Fauvism Paintings
Fauvism Paintings.
Fauvism is a modern art movement and style of painting that emerged in France at the beginning of the 20th century, flourishing around 1905–1908. Its name comes from the French word les Fauves, meaning “the wild beasts,” a term coined by a critic to describe the movement’s radical use of color and brushwork.
Fauvist artists used pure, brilliant colors applied directly from the tube, often in non-naturalistic ways, to create a sense of vibrancy and emotional intensity.
The brushstrokes are wild, impulsive, and textured, emphasizing the act of painting itself rather than careful detail or realism.
Subjects are often simplified, with forms reduced and distorted for expressive effect, moving away from realistic representation.
Fauvism sought to capture the artist’s emotional response to the subject, rather than a literal depiction, often resulting in energetic and dynamic compositions.
