Zenobia
Zenobia queen of palmyrene
Queen Zenobia of Palmyra, who ruled in the 3rd century CE, is renowned not only for her political and military prowess but also for her striking beauty. Born around 240 CE in the Palmyrene Empire (modern Syria), Zenobia was described by contemporaries as possessing a dark, swarthy complexion, with large, powerful black eyes that sparkled with both fire and sweetness. Her teeth were famously white and bright, so much so that some believed she had pearls instead of teeth.
Beyond her physical appearance, Zenobia was highly educated and cultured, fluent in several languages including Latin, Greek, Aramaic, and Egyptian. She was a patron of intellectuals and fostered a vibrant cultural environment at her court, which contributed to her reputation as a learned and sophisticated ruler.
Zenobia’s beauty was matched by her ambition and courage. After the assassination of her husband Odaenathus, she became regent for her young son and expanded Palmyra’s influence dramatically, conquering much of the Roman East, including Egypt. Her reign was marked by military success and the establishment of a multicultural empire.
